Pestxpert Tip: Don’t spray in the same area you place the cockroach bait – Sprays tend to be repellent to cockroaches and we want them to eat the bait!

Baits are the smart way to deal with cockroach problems, especially German cockroaches (the ‘small ones’). German cockroaches hide in the smallest of cracks and crevices, and are very hard to find. With baits you don’t need to find them.

Simply place the bait in the areas you see cockroaches or suspect they are hiding and they will do all the hard work for you – they feed on the bait taking it back to the harbourage where others also pick up the insecticide, controlling the population.

PestXpert 2 in 1 Cockroach Bait is a professional gel bait formulation. Not only is it superior in palatability to solid bait in plastic bait stations, it can be placed in far more locations, ensuring fast cockroach feeding and rapid population control.

Professional Formulation

  • Highly attractive, professional gel formulation
  • Unique formulation with two insecticides;
    • One to target the adults and nymphs for rapid population suppression
    • One to break the breeding cycle to deliver complete population control

PestXpert 2 in 1 Cockroach bait uses the same packaging as professional products. The syringe with plunger and applicator nozzle allows for precise placement of small amounts of cockroach bait. This means the product can be placed exactly where required, without any wastage. This flexibility and precision in application is why they are preferred to the plastic cockroach bait stations used in standard consumer products.

The product can be kept fresh be replacing the clear applicator nozzle with the black protective nozzle after use.

PestXpert Cockroach Gel Bait

‘Small’ cockroaches, such as German cockroaches, do not travel very far from their hiding places, normally only 1-2 metres. So, although you do not have to find their hiding places, you do need to place the cockroach bait near likely harbourages.

Recommended cockroach bait placements:

  • Corners of under-sink cupboards
  • Hinges of cupboard doors and dishwasher
  • Corners of food cupboards
  • Under cupboards, fridges and cookers (can place on pieces of aluminum foil if desired to allow ease of checking)
  • Feet of fridge and cookers
  • Kickboards of cupboards
  • Underneath microwave, toaster and other small kitchen appliances

The key to success with cockroach baiting is to apply numerous, small bait placements – small dots of gel in many locations, rather than applying big blobs or lines of gel, or bait stations in fewer locations. The recommended dot size is around the size of a small pea.

PestXpert 2 in 1 Cockroach bait will start to work within 24 hours, with control of the population within 7 days. Monitor cockroach gel placements – if they have been eaten out, you should place some further gel dots as you may have a bigger problem than you thought!

The gel placements should remain attractive for up to 3 months, after which they should be replaced, especially if you intend to use cockroach baits as part of an ongoing cockroach prevention program.

IMPORTANT TIP: If you are going to use insecticide sprays as well as baits to deal with your cockroach problem, it is important that you don’t apply a spray in the same area as the bait placement. Sprays tend to be repellent to cockroaches and so will prevent cockroaches being attracted to the bait, therefore reduce their effectiveness. A good strategy is to place bait in and around the cupboards and to spray around the perimeter of the room.

The performance of all pest control products is always improved if their use is part of an integrated pest management (IPM) program, where other actions are taken to make conditions less conducive to pests. For cockroaches, a good hygiene regime is essential.

The PestXpert range has been specifically designed for use around homes, where there will be children and pets present. In fact, the professional quality packaging allows the products to be applied more safely than standard consumer products, as they can be applied more accurately with less chance of accidental contact.

Nevertheless, safety should always be the number one priority and so before carrying out any pesticide treatment follow the following key steps

  1. Read the label. Make sure you understand application instructions and safety information.
  2. Wear appropriate safety clothing. PestXpert recommends wearing gloves during application.
  3. Prepare the treatment area. The area to be treated should be clear of obstacles to allow application of the bait to the target areas.
  4. Do not apply in areas accessible to children and pets (see below)

The safety profile of a modern cockroach gel, such as PestXpert 2 in 1 Cockroach Bait, with the small amount of product placed and the tiny amount of insecticide in the bait, means that the risk to pets and children is minimal. However, with safety the number one consideration, the best option is to not use in areas accessible to children – discrete placement of gel dots in the locations suggested will keep the gel out of sight and minimise the chance of contact from prying paws and little fingers.

Note: PestXpert 2 in 1 Cockroach Bait DOES NOT contain nuts or nut extracts, unlike some other cockroach baits.

FAQ

Over the course of a week, you should see less cockroaches around and probably a few dead bodies (although many of the cockroaches will die in their harbourage). Within 1-2 weeks the problem should be eliminated, unless insufficient bait was placed in enough locations or you have a really big infestation! If the bait has been eaten and cockroaches still remain, apply more bait.

PestXpert 2 in 1 cockroach bait contains very small amounts of insecticide and only small amounts of product is applied. Even if a pet ingested the bait, there is a minimal risk to their health. However, it is always best practice to place bait out of the reach of pets and small children.

Are cockroach baits safe for cats?

Cats are carnivores so whether they are attracted to cockroach baits depends on the formulation. Whilst a large amount of the formulation is plant and sugar based, many baits have some protein content, such as chicken liver. It is not very common for cats to eat cockroach bait.

Are cockroach bait safe for dogs?

Dogs will eat almost anything and will certainly eat cockroach bait given the chance. However, given the small amount of product applied and very low insecticide levels, an adverse reaction is unlikely. However, you should always check with your veterinarian in case of ingestion. More of a risks with cockroaches in bait stations is that the dogs will actually eat the plastic bait stations.

Yes, you can use PestXpert 2 in 1 Cockroach Bait with cockroach sprays and indeed for a comprehensive cockroach treatment, it is recommended. However, do not apply sprays in the same location as the bait placement as it can impact how / if the cockroaches will find and feed on the bait.

PestXpert 2 in 1 Cockroach Bait can only be bought in Bunnings or through our online shop (this page). If you’re looking for a Bunnings cockroach bait, PestXpert 2 in 1 Cockroach Bait is a great option, as it is the premium solution and largest gel bait pack size.
